Comments by the Montana Wilderness Association about wilderness airstrips
Bob Marshall Wilderness
The Montana Wilderness Association makes the following claim under their achievements for the year on their website:
"2002—Members of our Island Range and Wild Divide Chapters shut down early attempts made by the Montana Pilots Association to develop landing strips in wildlands in Montana, including six spots in the Bob."
An outright lie. The MPA made no attempt to reopen the closed airstrips in the Bob Marshall. These airstrips were closed in 1964 when the first wilderness in the United States was designated. The Forest Service continued to use them for some years afterward however.
